Making old discs look good

Looking for a projector for DVD player that won't make my movies look like pixel soup. Do any models handle DVD reso well w/o making everything look stretched?

bruhh nothing worse than movie night turning into pixel soup, I've had good luck with some 720p projectors that downscale dvd content nicely without stretching it to oblivion. Look for one with decent scaling and 4:3 aspect support if you can. Won't be theater quality, but with the right screen and lighting, it still feels pretty cozy

Good looking out on the 720p tip and the heads up about the aspect ratio, pixelated movies are a real buzzkill. Any specific 720p models you've had good luck with that won't cost an arm and a leg? What size screen are you projecting onto?

Go for a real 1080p unit with good downscaling, older BenQ models like the HT2050A or Epson Home Cinema 880 handle DVD signals way better.

Most new projectors make DVDs look terrible and blurry, kinda like stretched and with low-res. Your best bet is an older 720p projector that handles 480p natively, but even then, dont expect much.

Good question, best way is to check out real reviews that test DVD or low-res videos and talk about how well the projector scales the image. Look for features like "video processing" or "pixel shift" in the specs. See it in person if you can with your DVDs to get a feel before buying, it makes a huge difference honestly

Based on experience, BenQ and Epson units usually handle DVD scaling pretty well. Like you can really see it for 4:3 content. If you can demo one first with your own discs, that's much better.

Posting a final update and thank you everyone for all the great guidance. I took your advice about demoing a unit and found a used BenQ HT2050A locally that the seller let me test with my own discs. You were all correct it handles the old 480p signal beautifully and makes the DVDs look great!

Been there, years ago I dragged my old DVD collection to a friend's movie night, only to watch them turn into a pixel mess on his shiny new projector. Ended up hunting down a secondhand HT2050A myself, just like you did. Solid call. Still using it for garage movie nights with no regrets
