I just relocated, and unfortunately, my old Epson 3020 didn't make it through the move, it's got a vertical line and keeps flickering. I'm on the lookout for a good upgrade that's under $1,000.

If you liked Epson 3020 I think you may like Epson Home Cinema 1080 or ViewSonic PA503HD, both under $1k

oh, you can get a huge upgrade for under $1000 now. Your old Epson used a lamp, which has a limited lifespan. Look for projectors with an LED or laser light source. They last for 20000 hours or more, so you basically never have to worry about replacing a bulb or having a 'move fail' again

Under $1,000 there's going to be trade-offs (black levels, outgassing, fan noise). Clean your room (dark, minimal ambient light), use a good screen, and you'll get decent results even from mid-tier projectors in that price range like the Vankyo Leisure 410.
