I came across a PowerLite 98H at a pawn shop for a pretty low price. The specs seem good, but I'm wondering if it's really suitable for outdoor movie nights in the backyard. Any opinions?

you didn't mention the condition. A huge thing to consider with a used projector, especially from a pawn shop, is the bulb.
The bulbs in these older projectors have a limited lifespan. You can probably find a setting in the menu that shows you the total hours on the lamp.
If it's close to the end of its life (the manual says up to 10,000 hours in eco mode), you'll need to factor in the cost of a new one, which can be around $100.
A new bulb will make a huge difference in image quality and brightness
don't forget to check it before you bought it
