ALR screen thoughts

I'm thinking about getting the Fengmi 4K Cinema Pro. Wondering if I really need an ALR screen with it. Any thoughts or advice?

ALR screens are pricey. If you're on a budget, blackout curtains plus a decent matte white screen will get you 80% there. ALR only really shines if you've got windows open or can't control light. Otherwise, that cash might be better spent on sound.

I had the Fengmi 4K Cinema Pro before. At first, I used a plain white wall, but the picture looked dull during the day. I switched to an ALR screen and it looked much better, clearer and less shiny. If you watch in a bright room or during the day, the ALR screen really helps. But if you mostly watch in the dark, a good white screen can still work fine.

The Fengmi 4K Cinema Pro is an Ultra Short Throw projector and they're specifically designed to be used with an ALR screen so yes, I highly suggest you get one!
Without one, you'll still get an image on a regular white wall or screen, but the black levels will be washed out, and the overall picture will look dull like @Peignot_08 mentioned, especially with any ambient light in the room.
You're buying a premium projector, so an ALR screen is the key to getting the full value out of it!

That depends on your setup. If you have a darker space or you can control the lighting, then a regular matte screen or a smooth wall will work. But if you have a lot of ambient light, I recommend using an ALR screen.
