Can my Panasonic PT‑AE700 still hold up today?

My parents still have a Panasonic PT‑AE700 from 2004 that they used for family movie nights, and I’m thinking of setting it up in my apartment in Boston. The room is only 4.5m long and I’d need a screen around 90 inches wide. Is it smarter to invest in a newer projector with higher brightness or can the Panasonic still hold up for casual Blu‑ray viewing?

I used my old AE700 in a small apartment for a year. It worked fine for Blu-rays at night but daytime viewing was rough. If you have blackout curtains, it’ll still do the job.

If blackout curtains are the deciding factor, I can test that setup in my apartment within a few days. Did you find the fan noise or lamp hours became more of a limitation over time?

The biggest limitation for this projector is its brightness and resolution. It will struggle with any ambient light, requiring a very dark room for an engaging picture, and it cannot display the full 1080p or 4K resolution of modern Blu rays and streaming content
